Fire crews from Chard rushed to Phoenix courtyard off Fore Street, at 1.52am on Thursday (January 4).

A car parked by a wooden building was targeted by an arsonist in Chard.

Fire crews from Chard rushed to Phoenix courtyard off Fore Street, at 1.52am on Thursday (January 4).

They battled to put out the flames, which were spreading from one vehicle to another and to adjacent buildings.

The firefighters extinguished the blaze using breathing apparatus, a hose reel jet, compressed air foam jet and thermal imaging camera.

A spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: “We have confirmed the cause as deliberate and requested police attendance.

“Two vehicles and two buildings were involved in the fire and were damaged.”
