East Devon District Council has given away £16,500 to projects applying to its Community Buildings Fund during the 2015/16 year.

Projects in All Saints, Awliscombe and Kilmington have been given a four-figure boost to make maintenance repairs.

East Devon District Council has given away £16,500 to projects applying to its Community Buildings Fund during the 2015/16 year.

The scheme helps community buildings and community shops around East Devon with funding for projects such as new or improved toilet facilities, kitchen facilities, roof repairs, heating and new door fixtures.

Among the beneficiaries was Awliscombe Village Hall, which received £5,000 towards replacing its outdated kitchen.

Kilmington Village Hall also received £5,000 to replace the supporting posts carrying part of the roof and to replace windows.

The fund also approved £1,500 for the village hall in All Saints to go towards two new fire doors and flooring.

The final grant was donated to Otterton Village Hall.

Councillor Ian Thomas, chairman of the community fund panel, said: “The number of great projects put forward within the district shows what a tremendous sense of community exists in East Devon.

“It’s important that we do all we can to support the willingness of community-minded residents, who work hard to keep communal facilities running for the benefit of other people.

“I am really pleased that we have been able to keep this valuable fund going, despite current financial pressures, and would encourage any supporters of community buildings or community shops that need funding to find out more about the grants.”
