Village salutes former postmistress

OFFWELL Village Hall was packed full of people last Saturday night as villagers gathered to pay tribute to their former sub-postmistress, Helen Garwood.

OFFWELL Village Hall was packed full of people last Saturday night as villagers gathered to pay tribute to their former sub-postmistress, Helen Garwood.Mrs Garwood, who lives in Offwell, was recently made redundant by Post Office Limited following a review of the post office network across Devon.A staunch supporter of Offwell Post Office, Mrs Garwood was at the forefront of a well-organised campaign to save the community facility. After a hard-fought battle, however, the axe fell last week.Mrs Garwood has accepted a part-time job as manageress of the village shop, run by Offwell Retail Services Association.During last weekend's party, villagers presented Mrs Garwood with gifts and a card.
