A SEATON man was on top of the world celebrating his 60th birthday after climbing one of the highest active volcanos in the world. Graham Newton, of Harepath Road, climbed the Cotopaxi in Ecuador, which stands at 5,797 metre above sea level.
A SEATON man was on top of the world celebrating his 60th birthday - after climbing one of the highest active volcanos in the world.Graham Newton, of Harepath Road, climbed the Cotopaxi in Ecuador, which stands at 5,797 metre above sea level.Fortunately for Graham, the volcano which has a long record of violent eruptions, stayed quiet on his visit.Graham met up with his daughter Paula, 36, who emigrated to Ecuador in 2005. The former Colyton Grammar School pupil now lives in the capital Quito, working for the publishing company, Viva.The inexperienced climbers, who travelled with a guide and had to leave at night before the ice melted, reached the top in just under five and a half hours.Graham said: "It was the experience of a lifetime - but never again!
