Friends and family join sponsored trek

A group of family members and friends took part in a fundraising walk in memory of a much-respected Axe Valley doctor.

They tackled 25 miles of the beautiful East Devon Way as a tribute to Dr David Lawrey - a well-known GP in Seaton, Beer and Axminster, who sadly died last year.

The Lawrey family were joined by friends and their dogs for several stages of the walk that took them from Woodbury Common via Hapford, Sidford and Farway, before ending up in Colyton and then a much-deserved cream tea at the family home in Seaton.

Dr Lawrey’s daughter, Sally Hoult, told the Herald: “We wanted to find a way of both doing something in an area that Dad knew and loved as well as raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society after he died from complications of this dreadful disease.

“Thanks to the enthusiasm of everyone involved and the generosity of others who couldn’t join us, we have raised over £1,400, which is a fantastic sum and if anyone would like to contribute we have set up a Justgiving page - justgiving.com/eastdevon-walk”
