Devon County Council, which has identified eight post offices it thinks should be retained from a closure list of 45 across the county, has never said those eight branches are viable. That is what a County Hall spokesperson told the Herald, following BBC reports that Offwell Post Office is on the retention list and that it is 'viable'.Meanwhile, the community Council of Devon have condemned the proposed branch closures.Chairman Peter Dunning said: "Devon seems to have been hit much harder than many other parts of the country."And yet Devon has more remote communities, a higher proportion of older, less mobile resident and a population that is growing faster than almost anywhere in the country."All these would seem to be good reasons for protecting the network.
