Mark Williams stated in his letter last week "what [EDDC] does have at heart is Seaton's best interests".

Is this the same EDDC which has systematically stripped Seaton of its assets and persecuted its shop owners with planning rules? Refused to re-open the youth centre? By-passed us in favour of other areas time and again?

It is about to sell our youth centre and public toilets to Tesco without replacing them. It is attempting to take our play and recreation money to buy land for the "Mega Marsh", even though we have no leisure facilities. It also demolished the shelter on the Esplanade and didn't replace it, ignoring those planning regulations he quotes at us.

East Devon District Council looked away when 150 jobs were lost at the holiday village, yet ran around trying to save 30 in Honiton.

I'm sure the tramway visitors who disliked looking at the old holiday park will just love the view of the giant Tesco when it's built.

Isn't that exactly what people want to see when they come on holiday or for a day trip to the Jurassic and World Heritage Coastline?

Is it really "misleading and unhelpful" to expect councillors to act on behalf of the wishes of the voters, especially when those councillors won't have to live with the decision they make?

What Mr Williams fails to explain is why they have allowed Tesco to operate their dot com business in Seaton, bringing unimaginable amounts of trucks into a small seaside town, when logistically and environmentally this would be better suited near the A30.

What Mr Williams also fails to explain is why EDDC chose to ignore huge amounts of planning regulations when they passed the Tesco application. What he fails to explain is why Seaton gets lumbered with a supermarket that is too big and would adversely affect the shops in the town, yet Honiton doesn't. The same rules should apply to both towns.

Please do explain all of this, I would love to know. I expect the rest of Seaton would too.
