'We swear, we all love our church'

FENITON residents love their church and showed just how much on Valentine's Day. Churchwarden David Lanning, who admits he did nothing to mark February 14, got two pleasant surprises. A lady from Feniton Flower Show turned up and gave me a cheque for £65

FENITON residents love their church and showed just how much on Valentine's Day.Churchwarden David Lanning, who admits he did nothing to mark February 14, got two pleasant surprises."A lady from Feniton Flower Show turned up and gave me a cheque for £65 towards the church roof restoration appeal," he said."I thought that was very nice, then I had a call from Feniton Sports and Social Club. They asked if they could come round."Mr Lanning then received a cheque for £100 - the contents of the club's Swear Box.St Andrew's Church needs a complete new roof. The total cost will be £220,000 and work is being carried out in phases.Fundraising has so far netted more than £80,000 and workmen are currently re-roofing part of the building.Grants towards the project have been hard to come by, leaving villagers to raise the bulk of the total.
