Archant

Wear a poppy to remind you of the sacrifices made.

My mother says I have a brain like a sieve. Actually, I don’t tend to forget things, I just have a very full brain and don’t always remember them when I need to, so I need help to jog my memory.

I am glad that someone invented electronic calendars that buzz or beep to remind me of important events. I constantly write notes to remind me of things to do and leave them around the house. I have even resorted to the old fashioned knot in a hankie to jog my memory.

And at this time of year I wear a poppy, to jog my memory that freedom comes at a price and that many have sacrificed and are sacrificing much in the cause of freedom and justice. Jesus said: ‘Greater love has no person than to lay down their life for their friends.’ We will remember them.
