MOTORISTS and residents in Devon are being warned to prepare for snow and ice, which have been forecast on tomorrow (Friday) and over the weekend.

The warning from Devon and Cornwall Constabulary comes after the Met Office issued a warning of wintry showers of rain, sleet and snow across the South West overnight and into the weekend.

Motorists are being asked to take extreme care as the cold snap has raised concerns about the risk of icy patches on the roads.

Freezing temperatures are expected again tonight and local authority and Highways Agency gritters are already out in force.

Motorists are being reminded to avoid overnight travel unless absolutely necessary and never assume a road has been salted as showers and rain will wash salt off the roads leaving them prone to ice.

Allow additional time for your journey and reduce your speed.
