We should be indebted to the Midweek Herald for organising the phone-in on East Devon District Council services, reported in last week's issue.
What a cosy arrangement exists for the salaries of senior managers! They are all related to one figure, the chief executive's pay. So all they have to do is to get the CEO's salary hiked up and they prosper correspondingly.
And who determines the CEO's pay? Not the council taxpayers who are his employer and pay-master, but a nebulous and unaccountable body (SW Regional Employers Association).
Talk about mutual back-scratching!
So, will those councillors and ex-councillors who voted to approve this scheme now stand up to be counted?
