WITH reference to the proposed Honiton Community Centre complex... It's a complex and that's for sure. How dare Councillor Jill McNally take time to scrutinise facts and analyse ramifications and then have the temerity to voice concerns at last week's council meeting. I am talking, of course, of the proposed borrowing towards the ill-conceived gin palace, which started off as a community hall and then got too big for its boots. Somehow, after alleged 'closed' meetings, it growed like Topsy, even with its own labelled "Wedding Entrance". Where are these revised plans? Who sanctioned them? And, while we are at it, Councillor Vernon Whitlock recently berated EDDC for not being open. If he is keen on being open, please let us know who constitutes the committee for furthering the cause of the Honiton Community Centre and who sanctioned the cheque for yet more money going to the architects? All previous requests for this information have been ignored. Well done, Jill! You have more support in the community than you probably realise. And, sooner rather than later, more councillors will have to agree with you. Honiton does not need to even think of borrowing vast sums in the present economic climate.Sheila McBreartyRidgewayHoniton
