DEVON county councillor Margaret Rogers has made enquiries into signage for Seaton Hospital, after patients from Exeter complained they could not find the building. Following a ward closure at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital in Exeter last week, some patients were dispersed to hospitals around East Devon. Under the normal practice where outpatient clinics are held in community hospitals it is customary for the patient to be given directions for reaching the appropriate clinic. In last week's case the patients were not issued the directions. Councillor Rogers said: "I have taken up the matter with Paul Wilson, of Devon County Council. "He tells me that the County Council has not received any requests for additional signage to Seaton Hospital but, if a request were to be received, then we would consult with the Health Authority as to what signage would be appropriate for this hospital. "I am, therefore, writing to the Chief Executive of the RD and E to ask that, should the need for patient dispersal to other locations become necessary, relatives be given travelling directions including those for public transport routes. I am sure that DCC's Transport Coordination Centre would be pleased to supply the information.
