WHIMPLE artist Judy Hempstead attended the re-opening of Sidmouth Museum before Easter to see the hanging of a Sidmouth seascape it commissioned from her.For Of High Peak, Judy used mixed media. Tissue paper added texture to the waves.With the help of a World Heritage Coast arts strategy grant, curator Dr Bob Symes was able to have Judy - whose work he admires - paint the red cliff coastline."He had seen my work over a year or two and rang me up to say he had some money available from a grant and the museum wanted to commission me," said Judy.Using sketches and photographs, Judy, whose husband's family are fishermen from Beer, uses watercolour, then acrylics to finish the "assemblages".A former art teacher at Exeter College, Judy "took a huge risk" 11 years ago and gave up work to become a full-time artist.You can see Judy's painting at Sidmouth Museum, which has free admission this year.
