WI members in Colyford hear about RNLI lifeboats

PUBLISHED: 17:00 23 April 2017

Colyford WI members heard all about RNLI lifeboats at their April meeting.

Mac McLaren supported his talk with anecdotes and thoughtful stories. He explained how lifeboats, working hand in hand with the coastguards, are one of the emergency services.

Members learnt about how the boats have changed over the years - originally they were rowed - the importance of the lifeboat in its community, the constant review of where lifeboat stations should be situated and many other interesting facts.

Later Simnel cake was enjoyed with a cup of tea and ladies were thanked for that and other cake contributions.

More tickets were sold for the local ‘group’ meeting and final arrangements were made for those attending the Devon Federation Spring Council Meeting in Torquay.

There were three contributions of flower vases made from a recycled object and one was selected as Colyford’s entry for the competition at the group meeting.

The next meeting, on May 3, is the AGM. For more information contact Elizabeth Harding on 01297 624250.
