Victim suffered head injuries after being struck by the boom of her yacht off West Dorset

An injured woman was airlifted from a boat off the West Dorset coast yesterday (Thursday, August 28).

Portland Coastguard Helicopter RESCUE-106 was scrambled at around 1pm after the skipper of the 8.5m yacht LAZY DAYS, with three people on board, made a Mayday broadcast reporting that a crew member had been hit on the head by the boom and requesting immediate assistance.

Quickly on-scene - 7nm south-west of Portland Bill - R-106 winched the female casualty aboard and flew her direct to Dorchester Hospital landing site for treatment in the Accident and Emergcncy Centre.
