IT is the worst possible place for an ATM." Words used by a former mayor of Honiton to describe plans for a cashpoint machine at Woolworths in Lace Walk. Councillor Sally Casson told a meeting of the town council's planning committee last week that anti-social behaviour is prevalent in Lace Walk. The meeting heard that Woolworths is seeking permission from East Devon District Council to set a cashpoint machine in the shop's front window. Committee chairman Councillor Michael Teare said: "They are taking their own risk with this, if it is vandalised." But Councillor Alfred Boom was quick to point out that there is an ATM machine 20 yards away from Woolworths, outside the Co-op, meaning a precedent had been set. Councillors recommended the plan for approval.
