A musical about challenges faced by a tribe of people living in the Amazon basin has been performed by key stage two pupils at a Honiton primary school.
Yanomano, commissioned by the Worldwide Fund for Nature 25 years ago, allowed children at Littletown, which has won academy status, the opportunity to illustrate trials faced by people who have traditionally lived in harmony with nature.
Poverty and greed, brought about by mining and the destruction of forests, were portrayed through songs that highlighted the tribe’s aspirations and frustrations.
The message was simple: laws which demand the greatest respect are the unwritten laws which link all living things.
The musical was made possible thanks to sponsorship from Homebase, Soft Options and Happy Daze Printing.
