Axminster Young Farmers’ Club’s annual prize winners collected their awards from a VIP guest last week.

Simon Bugler, from Pilsdon, who was the 2016 National Milk Records Gold Cup winner, handed out the cups during the event at Axminster Guildhall, where he also gave an entertaining talk to the gathering.

Members heard that another successful year had enabled them to donate £1,000 to Devon Young Farmers, who are in the process of fundraising for a new building which they will make their base.

This will provide a ‘hub’ for young farmers across Devon and so have a big impact on the Axminster club, the meeting was told.

Future events include a new members’ meeting on Monday, November 7, at 8pm at the Ridgeway Inn, Smallridge.

This is open to anyone aged between 10 and 26 who would like to find out more about becoming a young farmer.

Organisers say joining the club is a brilliant way of getting to know new people and taking part in a range of competitions such as entertainments, sports, stock judging and speaking.

Axminster YFC secretary Alice Gay added: “ We would love people to come along and see what we are all about and hopefully become part of our club.
