Youths apologise and clear litter after smashing community notice board

TWO youngsters who damaged a notice board at Seaton just hours after it was put up got a taste of community justice at the weekend.

The boys had smashed glass on the information panel erectedby the residents’ association at Mead Way last month.

Secretary Flo Townley described it as “mindless vandalism”.

Police later tracked down the two youngsters responsible and yesterday (Sunday) they spent an hour picking up litter in the area.

Accompanied by local Neighbourhood officers PC Daz Norton and PCSO Chris Bolsover, the two youths picked up two full bags of litter.

PC Norton said: “Rather than criminalise the two youths, who were not previously known to police, it was agreed with the St Gregory’s and Mead Way Residents’ Association that the two would spend time picking up litter in the area where the sign was broken and also provide letters of apology.”
