Colyton Grammar School students collect 716 items for Exeter Foodbank

STUDENTS at Colyton Grammar School have collected over 700 food items to help families in need.

Led by tutor Louise Fitzhenry, youngsters in Year 9 organised an appeal in aid of Exeter Foodbank.

Last week they handed over their 288.6kg donation to the organisation’s representative Pete Scott.

He told them: “We give out over half a tonne of food a week to over 50 individuals in crisis in Exeter.

“We have empty shelves at present, so this donation is extremely well timed. We get lots of donations from schools at harvest time, but during slower periods we really appreciate the support.”

Mr Scott also thanked Colyton’s 11 Ash students who launched a similar project two years ago

He said: “The students who helped before have given the inspiration for future classes to continue helping the charity.”
