LYME REGIS - The ladies did well this week, with a 10 point win over Verwood in the league. The men have not fared so well, although the championship side were unlucky to lose at Wimborne. The game was evenly balanced throughout, probably won and lost with the last bowl of the match. In the Percy Baker league, W2 are level on points, at the top, with Dorchester. The two teams met at Lyme yesterday (Tuesday) after which there should be a clear leader. The men's A and B teams are still struggling in Div 1, in fact last week it was the B team that came nearest to a win!The 101 Club competition was a very well supported event, and close to 30 competitors battled it out on Sunday in what were pretty sweaty conditions. Paul Pomeroy overcame a very worthy opponent in John Beadsley to lift the final whilst, in the Ladies' final, Chris Barber edged ahead of Diana Courtenay-Smith.A reminder to those engaged in club competitions, to get games fixed for the June 28 deadline. Do not forget the tournament will take a large chunk of the available time. Results:Dorset Men's Championship:Lyme 47, Wimborne 51: J Eaton, S Pomeroy, B Rattenbury, P Pomeroy 18-15; P Moffitt, K Hickman, G Stockley, P Eagles 15-19; B Gillett, C Barber, D Meylan, M Preston 14-17.West Dorset Men's Div 1: Lyme A 46, Weymouth Melcombe Regis 77: R Richardson, J Irwin, C Matthews, John Perry 22-25; M Knight, B Parsons, G Cozens, D Perry 12-18; P Stephens, D Pomeroy, A Preece, T Allman 12-24.Lyme B 53, Porland Vic 62: M Thorner, R Cridge, J Beadsley, J Belger 23-18; M Clark, R McLennan, D Wood, R Moody 18-22; G Clode, B Downes, H Keep, E Skeemer 12-22.Dorset Ladies Div 2: Lyme 74, Verwood 40: J Moffitt, M Gillett, J Parsons, K Clissold 31-10; M Bartlett, D Courtenay-Smith, N Stephens, C Barber 21-13; K Smith, S Eaton, J Perry, A Allman 22-17.I watched a good deal of this game, and have to say this is a team playing with determination and conviction.
