Playing bowls by the seaside at Lyme Regis, with the friendly rivalry between the two teams filled with banter and good humour, and holidaymakers are able to stop and watch over the wall enjoying some very fine bowling by both teams.
The home team proved too strong, winning 84-66 winning on 3 rinks and losing on the other, as Andy Ross skipped his team of Young James Windsor, Kathleen Manley, and Brian Clark to a last end win of 20-18.
Two other rinks reached a final end climax, where skip Jovial Ken Taylor narrowly lost and Glen "lovely legs" Elliott lost on the last wood after their teams had put up spirited fights.
Axminster was actually holding a one-shot lead at half time as tea was served outside by two lovely ladies, but as all bowlers know things can change after tea!
On Sunday, the club sent four mixed triples to Taunton Vivary to play on the beautiful luxuriant grass and again went down 3 rinks to 1 against a friendly bunch who were very good sports and hosts. Axminster’s winning rink was Jack Hare, club captain David Harris and club coach Anne Clayton, who won 16 -11.
The club is still looking for new members, if you would like to have a taster session, please call Glen Elliott on 07933 517591.
