Kennick Flyfishers enjoyed Sunday’s 2nd round of the Snowbee Top Rod, fished at Kennick with 11 anglers catching 26 Trout, top weight going to Andy Gooding of Liverton with a five-fish bag of 9lbs 11oz.
Andy Watson and Alex Venn took the next two places. Top fly was a Diawl Bach fished on a floating line. The previous weekend saw Darren Penfold and Paul Wicks take the honours in the Kennick Pairs Competition.
Spring Ponds latest competition saw Steve Barrel in first place with a weight of 24lbs 14oz with Jason Fay and Freddie Holding taking 2nd and 3rd - the successful bait was pellet fished either on the waggler or pole.
Newton Abbot Fishing Association Juniors fished their latest match at Wheel Pond on the Rackerhayes complex with 13 youngsters fishing. Top weight was Robbie Maddacott with 4kg of silver fish followed by Archie Johnson and Jamie Coxall.
Also caught at Rackerhayes this week was a surprise Eel of 3 1/2lbs, which fell to ledgered pellet and a huge haul of Tench to the rod of Tackle Trader owner Max Palmer with a best fish exceeding 5lbs. Newbarn Angling Centre continues to fish well will the weather warming with Rich ‘foxy’ Parks catching a stunning Mirror Carp tipping the scales at 20lbs. Bill Grant took two carp to 17lbs from the margin on Maggots.
Sea Anglers have had a magnificent week, as Alex Webb and Will Booth travelled to the Bristol Channel where they found Bass and Thornback Rays to 12lb respectively. Tony Harris fished Branscombe Beach and using Peeler Crab bait caught a fine early season Smoothhound of 12lbs 1oz. Paul Gordon Fished the estuary at Salcombe and battled for seven minutes on light gear to land a Gilthead Bream of 4lbs 4oz.
Matt Forrester and his boat Silver Halo found plenty of Pollack, including a fish of 14lbs for Barry Dodge of Shaldon and several Coalfish, featuring an 8lb fish to the rod of Dan Teague owner of the Cellar Door at Sharpham House.
David Mordecai fishing out of Torquay landed a Cod using a pink jig. Richard Allbones fished the skerries and found the Plaice feeding, and Nick Williams fishing out of Salcombe had a 14 ½ lb Blonde Ray on a running ledger and Bluey bait.
