The Covid Cup was started last year when Barbara Cummings found an old silver trophy and decided it should be played for in a mixed pairs competition to commemorate the devastating illness which has affected us all.
The competition was a stableford better ball event played over two consecutive Mondays. After the first round of matches, there were half a dozen couples within a few points of each other. Considering the weather was breezy with the occasional hail storm and the fact that Tony Strong played on his own as his partner was injured all the couples produced good scores and it was all to play for in the second round.
The winners with a final total of 79 points were Caroline and Steve Bond who retained the trophy they won in the inaugural year. They were pushed all the way by the partnership of Janet Dack and Paul Curtin.
