Captain Dave Bruce took his match team to Libbaton, North Devon, where they ended up suffering a defeat.
Bruce, playing with Nigel Garwood, won the first hole of their match, but thereafter the captain’s game went downhill fast, despite some exciting play from his partner!
All the other matches were closely competed, but the only Axe Cliff winners on the day were the steady pairing of Brian Thompson and young Gilbert Cox, who won their match three-and-one. Treasurer Bill Polley and a tanned Leighton Morgan fought back to halve their great game while Adrian Bishop and Mick Tomes had another very competitive battle, losing one down on the last hole. The overall result was four-and-a-half to one-and-a-half in favour of the hosts leaving all to play for when the sides meet again, this time at Axe Cliff in September.
