After a very successful ‘Opening of the Rinks ‘ in late April, Axminster bowlers have enjoyed a run of three successive wins, writes David Harris.

First up was a visit from Lyme Regis that resulted in an 85-63 win for Axminster. It was pretty even on a number of the rinks – three of them were very close, The home success came for the rinks of Mike Mellor, Margaret Brown, Doug Looskan, and Brian Clark (31-12); Pam Clark, David Harris, Sue Bond, and James Windsor (19-18) and Morrison Brown, Les Clark, Mavis Swallow, and Bob Sherborne (16-14), whilst Philippa White, Valerie Mellor, Ann Clayton, and Nigel Bond tied 19-19.

The other mixed friendly was a home game against Bridport that saw the visiting side beaten 76-38.

There were wins for all the home rinks - Margaret Brown, Les Clark, Mavis Swallow, and Brian Clark (31-11), Sue Bond, Margaret Brown, Alfie Day, and Margaret Crompton (26-13) and Philippa White, Ann Burn, David Harris, and Nigel Bond (19-14).

In between the afore mentioned game the Axminster men for their Devon Over-60s League campaign off to a super start with an excellent 57-17 home win over Exonia. Both Axminster rinks won - George Mabon, David Harris, and Doug Looskan (36-6) and John Ellis, Nigel Bond, and Bob Sherborne 21-11).
