Axminster Town are set to stage the only South West Peninsula League (SWPL) Eastern Division game on the third Saturday match day of 2018 when they entertain Brixham at Tiger Way (3pm).
Beer Albion’s weather-resistant Furzebrake home was also staging one of the few games to survive the weather in the Macron Devon and Exeter League, with their meeting with Witheridge Reserves kicking off at 2.15pm.
It’s been pretty wet for a number of weeks now and, since December 9, just 23 matches have been played in the SWP League, Eastern Division, with Brixham having played the most times, getting in five matches, while, at the other end of the scale, three teams, Crediton United, Teignmouth and University, have all played just the once!
In terms of the four East Devon-based clubs; Axminster Town and Budleigh Salterton have both been in action on five occasions while Honiton Town and Sidmouth Town have played three times.
The full breakdown, heading into the January 27 fixtures and therefore the number of times clubs will have played across a period of 48 days since December 9, is: Brixham (5); Axminster Town, Budleigh Salterton and Newton Abbot Spurs; Appledore, Galmpton and Roselands, Honiton Town, Ilfracombe Town, Torridgeside and Sidmouth Town (3); Alphington, Bovey Tracey, Liverton and St Martins (2); Crediton, Teignmouth and University (1).
