Honiton Town, under new manager Graham Bedford and his assistant Alan Lewis, were well beaten by Plymstock, losing 6-0 when the pair met at Mountbatten Park with a place in the last four of the Devon Premier Cup the prize for the winners.

The new management pair had met then team for the first time during the week before the cup tie. The pair have taken on the reigns from Toby Moore whom had been in temporary charge since the resignation of Paul Ashford. Moore is returning to his previous role of the Hippos’ first team physio and coach.

The Town cause against the South West Peninsula League Western Division strugglers – Plymstock came into the cup Tie sitting third bottom of the Western Division table having won just three of their 13 league games – was not helped by the straight red card handed to Elliot Dyer early in the second half. Town trailed by just a single goal before the red card, but thereafter it was always going to be a tough ask for the Hippos.

Their league position also became a little more precarious on Saturday when, in one of the two Eastern Division matches played Liverton recorded a first away win of the season, beating Axminster Town 1-0 at Tiger Way, and that means Town now sit just two points and three places above the bottom spot.

Alphington and Liverton both have 11 points from 15 games at the foot of the table with Appledore (12 points from 14 games) sitting between then bottom two and fourth bottom Town who have 13 points from 16 games so far.

Next up for Town is Saturday’s East Devon derby at Sidmouth Town. The Manstone Lane kick-off is 2.15pm.
