Axminster bowlers were in excellent home form when they entertained a very sporting Chard team, writes David Harris.
The Somerset side were beaten 123-29 with wins on all home rinks - Philippa White, Margaret Brown, Ken Quick, and John Hill (41-6), Joan Quick, Morrison Brown, David Harris, and Alfie Day (32-4), Valerie Mellor, Pam Clark, Sue Bond, and Margaret Crompton (27-11), and Daphne Ryan, Mike Mellor, Ann Clayton, and Nigel Bond (23-8).
I might add that Chard gave us a good hiding when we played there earlier in the season!
Next up was a friendly meeting away at Taunton Deane where the visitor were beaten 73-53. The best performing Axminster rink was the one of Sue Bond, David Harris, and Brian Clark, who managed a 17-all draw.
A trip to Dunkeswell for another friendly turned out to be a close contest, one won 63-56 by Axminster who enjoyed a fine 24-9 win by the rink of Joan Quick, Pam Clark, and Alfie Day (24-9).
The weather washed out the trip to Bradninch for a men’s Over-60s Triples League match, but the game at Culm Vale went ahead with the Mid Devon team just edging a close encounter by a margin of two shots. In the match, there was a 15-all tie for the triple of John Ellis, David Harris, and Bob Sherborne.
