In a tightly contested final, Steve Bond and Simon Wellington just pipped Dave Morgan and Alan Cooper to become 2016 Axe Cliff Golf Club men’s section foursomes champions, writes Pete Motson.

In one of the most testing formats in golf, each team of two play one ball per pair, each player taking alternate shots with the one ball.

A fine tee shot by one partner can be ruined by the other player miss-hitting the second shot into a hazard which, can occasionally lead to some knotty situations between friends!

Morgan and Cooper were in front right up to 14th hole when a poor hole for both pairs was won by Bond and Wellington with a bogey four. Pars on the 15th and the difficult feature hole 16th were enough to take Bond and Wellington two up with two holes to play. In a shaky 17th hole for both parties, Wellington and Bond halved the hole which, was good enough to win the match two-and-one.

Both pairings complimented each other on an excellent match played in a sporting spirit.
