Devon Over-50s batsman Brian Cann has left Honiton to move to Seaton.

Cann joined the Mountbatten Park side last season, but is now set to take his cricketing talents to the Court Lane home of Seaton.

Cann says: “After returning last season after 15 seasons away I felt it was the right time for myself and for the club for me to move on.

“The club is a different club to the one I left 16 years ago obviously, we had a great side through the nineties, and I still hold many great memories from that era, but it is still a good club, but not right for me at this particular time and at my cricketing stage of life.

“I wish their very hard-working committee the best of luck as they continue to improve the facilities at Mountbatten Park, with recent additions like the superb new roll-on-roll-off covers, and with plans for the very new future for a new net facility. I also wish the team the best of luck as they strive to pull away from the bottom of the D Division East table, and I’m sure again in the very near future you will see Honiton higher in that division, and getting things right on the field as well as off it.”

He continued: “So it’s off to pastures new for me, I will be joining only my third ever cricket club in 40 years of playing men’s cricket, and will be joining Seaton CC after long spells originally at Honiton, followed by 15 seasons at Feniton, and a short returning spell to spell which I have just ended. I am really looking forward to a fresh start, even at my age I’m relishing a new challenge with Seaton, it will be strange having played against them for many years, and gave had many a battle with my new captain, Ben Morgan.

“He is thrilled, I think, to have me on board and I’m sure I can do more than my bit to help them continue their successful season in the C Division.

“So, along with my first season in the 1st XI of the Devon over 50s, and now joining a new club in the Devon League, I hope I’ve found a new lease of life in my cricketing career.”

Honiton’s Alan Lapping said: “Sometimes, some things just don’t work out. We do of course wish him (Brian) all the very best. We are very clear as to the way we like to do things and are confident that in time that will bring the club plenty of success. There is certainly no hard feelings on either side with regard to this parting of the ways.”
