Honiton Under-12s were in superb form as they took hosts Wellington to the cleaners, beating the Somerset side 50-15.

Despite not playing since before Christmas, the Lacelads were bright from the first whistle and dominated early possession and territory.

However, they faced a stubborn home defence, which refused to yield against a barrage of Honiton attacks. The pressure eventually told though and Arthur Hattan powered over after a couple of strong hand offs.

Wellington quickly levelled with a breakaway try, but the Lacelads were quickly back into a high gear. From a solid platform of keeping the ball with forwards and backs linking well, Hattan again stormed over the line before captain Gabriel Cortinhas brushed off several challenges to score his teams third try.

Back came the home side and they scored twice moiré before the break with flanker Isaac Stanbury bagging a fourth try for the visitors to leave the Lacelads 20-15 up at the break.

Honiton made a fine start to the second half, but again met fierce resistance. It was some quick-thinking from scrum half Joe Evans that set up a move that ended with Osian Owen scoring from a quick tap.

Soon after Joe Evans crossed the Wellington whitewash before the rampaging Yannick Barrett raced home.

With the home defence tiring the Lacelads took full advantage Cortinhas ran in a superb individual try. Next over the line was Lee Pullman after he combined well with the imposing Joshua Giles. The final say went to Evans, who collected an Owen pass after a fantastic break from the dangerous Billy Tarr to cap an impressive Lacelad performance.

From such an all-round performance, selecting a Man of the Match is always difficult,. In this instance it must go to number eight, and captain Gabriel Cortinhas, for his dominant back row performance.
