Colyton Rebels under-8s were in sparkling form as they sealed a win double in their latest Exeter and District Youth League outings.
First up they took on Heavitree Eagles and a neat finish by Ben Sweeney saw them in a seventh minute lead. The Exeter side came back, but got little change out of the solid Rebels defence led superbly by Josh Frewin with goalkeeper Kyran Paynter playing his part, making a number of smart saves. It was no more than the side deserved when Sweeney scored again to seal a 2-0 success.
Next up Rebels took on Heavitree Hawkes and, once again their all-round play was too much for the Exeter side. Leading scorers Archie Bell and Ben Sweeney both netted during the game as a 4-0 win was recorded. A second clean sheet of the day again owed much to the defensive organisation orchestrated by young Frewin whilst midfielders Heath Parsons, and Corbin Real created problems for the opposition throughout the game. Parsons and Real scored the other goals.
Rebels’ manager Richard Frewin said: “We got hold of both games early and saw some impressive playing from the team. It is our first double win and we saw some terrific tackling and passing. The all-round team effort shows the dedication of our players. We are looking forward to the next fixture.”
