Twenty-seven seniors took part in the three-club Shield Competition at Axe Cliff last Friday, writes Helen Kenworthy.

The event is a little harder than the normal three club game as one of the clubs allowed must be the putter.

In tricky, gusty conditions the winning score of 35 points by Phil Christmas (24) was quite excellent.

Second, five strokes behind on 30 points, was Terry Jessup (20) and third place on 29 points went to John Hanna (24).

The men’s section played there July Medal on Sunday and Division One was won (on the back nine) by Richard Gibbons with a nett 72.

Second place went to Nigel Pritchard, also with a nett 72.

In Division Two it was Simon Sweetland who took the honours with a nett 66.

Second was Tony Snell with a nett 69.

There was one two scored by Dave Morgan.

On Wednesday the ladies played there Par Cup and the winner was Pauline Willis.

Second place went to Margaret Kenchington and third was Caroline Bond.
