Twenty-six seniors’ took part in the annual foursomes match for the Brian Abbott Shield, presented by the widow of the late Brian Abbott, writes Helen Kenworthy.

Although conditions were favourable most teams, apart from the winners, found scoring difficult. The runaway winners with 33 points were Bill Polley and Dave Weston.

The runners-up, with 29 points were Gilbert Cox and John Pugh while three teams recorded scores of 27 points.

That meant countback was called into play and third spot was claimed by Tony Strong and Peter Knighting with Mick Tomes and Hugh Willis and Gerald Turner and Tony Horton the teams to miss out.

In a recent senior’s two-ball, better-ball event held at Sidmouth Gilbert Cox and Axe Cliff captain Rob Grove won third prize. Well done, to both.
