It was Founder’s Trophy Day for the seniors section last Friday at Axe Cliff, writes Janet Dack.

The competition involves medal play over the opening nine holes and stableford on the inward half.

The points gained on the back nine are then deducted from the first nine total and the winner, with an amazing low score of 10 was Chris Walker (14).

Second place with 13 was Alan Vincent (17) and third Geoff Hughes (15) with a score of 14.

There were no fewer than five two’s, from Sid Pember, Charles Whitbourn, Dave Weston, Geoff Hughes and Alan Vincent.

Earlier in the week the team travelled to High Bickington to play Libbaton GC.

This is always a tough encounter and this years visit was no exception, the team losing 5-1!

Two matches ended all square and the half points were won by Bill Polley and Peter Knighting and Chris Walker and Phil Wilkins.

In a recent Seniors Open at Woodbury Park, Gerald Turner scored 37 points, the sixth best overall score, which won him not only third visitors prize, but a voucher for £60! Well done, Gerry.
