Honiton Netball League

Division One : Uplowman 28, Hi Q 22; OPG 48, Bo-Peeps 16; Flamingos 44, Wasps 27.

Flamingos retained their hold on the lead at the top of division one thanks to a successful game against Wasps, writes Graham Ingram.

Wasps started the night with just six players and this took its toll as Flamingos built up an 11-4 lead. The second quarter went from bad to worse for Wasps, as they lost a player due to injury and were down to five players, with Flamingos leading 21-12 at half way.

Wasps fought hard to gain a point, with Sasha Williams and Nicky Field playing very well but Flamingos were in control and led 33-18 going into the final period. With Karen Hall in good form for the league leaders it was three points for Flamingos from their 44-27 win, but Wasps had done enough to gain a point.

OPG held onto second place, thanks to a comfortable win over Bo-Peeps. With Hannah Lee playing well, OPG were in control from the off with a 13-3 lead at quarter time. OPG restricted the Peeps to three goals a quarter so that going into the final period, they were 34-9 up. With Poppy Williams doing well for Bo-Peeps, they had a stronger final period, but it was not enough as OPG ran out winners by 48-16.

Uplowman met Hi Q for the second time this season and it was a close fought thing. Uplowman took the first period 10-7, but by half way Hi Q had got a goal back with the score at 16-14 to Uplowman. Going into the final period, Hi Q were just a goal behind at 19-20, thanks to some good work from Sadie Moon. The final quarter saw Uplowman up their game, with Andrea Britten rallying her side so that they finished victors by 28-22.

Division Two: Weather Girls 34, JD Tyres 14; Tip Top Trees 27, Howden Hawks 23; Sidmouth Toucans 40, NAS 17.

Weather Girls’ unbeaten run continued with a fine 34-14 win over JD Tyres, to give them a five point lead at the head of the table. The first quarter was close with the Girls just 5-3 up against the Tyres, but by half way the lead was 15-7 and they never looked back. With Laura Stewart playing well, the Girls were 26-8 ahead going into the final period. Although Dawn Powers worked hard for JD, they could not get back into the game and went down by 14-34.

Sidmouth Toucans took advantage of the slip by JD and, with their win over NAS, still looking for a win, they moved back into fourth spot. With Helen Terry in good form, the Toucans were 17-11 up by half way, and going into the final period this was 30-11. NAS were struggling, however, as they played the game with only six players and it was the third period that had proved their undoing. For a time it looked as though they might gain a point, but it was not to be as Sidmouth ran out winners by 40-17,

Tip Top Trees and Howden Hawks changed places in the division as a result of the Trees bouncing back into form when it mattered to record a close 27-23 win. With Tara Andrews playing well, the Hawks had opened up with a 9-6 lead at quarter time. By half way 3Ts had a slender 14-13 lead, only for Hawks to start the final session 20-18 to the good. With Harriet Eaton having another splendid game for the Trees the honours finally went to Tip Top Trees by 27-23.

to end their run of poor results.
