Feniton took the lion’s share of the spoils in their derby game at Ottery St Mary.

Martin Swannell top scored with 57, a knock that included five 4s and one 6. Adi Pullin hit four 4s and three 6s in his 42 and there was a fine innings of 31 from Alex Frankpitt.

Rob Johns, Mark Woodman and young Sam Loud, each bagged a brace of wickets for the Otters who replied with 194-7, led there by Sam Tennent with a sparkling 69, whilst skipper Jody Clements (32), Ed Fowler (27) and Rob Johns (21no), all made contributions.

Norman Bedford claimed 3-38 and skipper Mark Kingdon finished with 3-61 for Feniton who must now seek to make up the thirty point gap between them, and the Otters over the last four games of the season if they are to make a step back into the C Division next summer.

Kingdon said: “I have got to be happy that we clawed back another four points on them (Ottery) with four to go they are clearly in the box seat. What we have to do is look to win two and possible three of our last four – starting with Yelverton next and that is now a must-win game. That may be enough, if not then good luck to whoever does take the second promotion berth. It’s one we’d like for sure and we’ll be playing tough cricket between now and the final day to see if we can indeed land a top two finish.”

Feniton begin the run-in on Saturday with a trip to a Yelverton side who sit one pint and one place below them in the table.

They then host doomed Bridestowe, travel to Mid-table Countess Wear, and then bring the curtain down on the season at home to Plymouth Civil Service and Roborough on September 3.
