The AVR gang enjoyed a different type of running at a club night when both juniors and seniors met up at Beer Quarry Caves car park for a Predictor run.

The juniors ran 2.17miles and the seniors 4.71 and they had to predict the time it would take them. Watches were not allowed on any of the runners!

We don’t know how he did it, but Andrew Watson was only two seconds out in the Junior event, he predicted 15:45 and took 15:47. James Hansford was 11 seconds out and Josh Coates 14.

The nearest junior girl was Emily Elliott, predicting 15:38 and taking 16:30, 52 seconds out. Paul Tolchard took the honours in the senior run, predicting 47:10 but taking 47:29, only 19 seconds out. Alex Todd was 26 seconds out and Bridget Keeffe 40 seconds. The prize for being furthest away went to Gill Day who was exactly 11 mins out. Many thanks to John Scott for allowing use of the car park and to all who helped in any way.

?Graham Newton had a superb run at the EMF Edinburgh marathon (26.2 miles) with a new PB of 3:36. He now has to maintain that as he is running five more marathons in five days this week with Geoff Woodward and Steve Reynolds. Simon and Becki Davey also ran, with Simon just missing his PB by one minute taking 4:09 and Becki, in her first marathon taking 4:59. It was a great effort by them both and they raised 400 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Diane Newton ran in the half marathon, again this was her first time over the 13.1 mile distance, and did really well to finish in 2:35.

?Harry Moore was the lone AVR at the Crewkerne 3.1 mile road race, which he completed in 39:14.

?The Wessex Ridgeway Relay never fails to make a superb day out, but this year's 12-stage, 67-mile multi-terrain run was arguably the best yet, with fantastic performances and much fun all round. AVR fielded the usual two teams but, this year, both ran together, the pairing of Alex Todd and Garry Perratt running alternate legs, plus Dominic Schneider, Chris Keeffe, John Blackledge with newcomers to the event Kevin Hawker and Robbie Holt running three each. (Most runners in other teams do just two legs.) Chris Keeffe hammered Leg 12 to maintain the position, finishing fourth in 9:00:18; Garry was so tired by then that he was passed by one runner, but held it together and finished sixth in about 9:10, the fastest ever time for a pair by 45 mins.

On Saturday evening Steve Reynolds and Geoff Woodward joined forces with Rick and Eleanor Wood to organise a Great Woodland Adventure run.

Runners went off armed with an instruction sheet (or Destruction sheet, whichever way you looked at it). Non-competitive Andy Bowman had the Fasted time of the evening, and was awarded with a medal. Gill, Jon and young Ethan Day, joined by Bridget Keefe set off before the main start. Soon into the run young Ethan was tugging at the reign's, so the Father and son team shot off into the distance. After a much needed pit stop half way round (the instruction sheet really paid for itself), the pair finished in just under 2 hours, which was a fantastic effort as the woody 7 was actually 8 miles. Ethan was presented with a medal for being the youngest runner and all runners agreed that it was a brilliant route. Actually the only runners to get lost were those that followed Geoff’s son, Mark.
