HONITON GOLF - Over the last two weekends the gentlemen of Honiton have been playing their annual 36 hole bogey competition for the Hellier (Div1) and Steele Perkins (Div2) trophies.Bogeys are notorious for being harsh, with participants often ending up with a score lower than they think they deserve. Not so for young Tim Wade during his second round. Every once in a while you witness a round of golf that you just have to take your hat off to. Tim's exceptional round of +8 , combined with a first round score of -2, giving him +6 overall, easily won him the Hellier Trophy. Tim now plays off a mark three shots lower and this is probably not the last cut he will see this year. No such fireworks in division 2 with John Chew finishing on -2 (+1 -3) winning the Steele Perkins trophy on countback from Paul Blackmore (+2 -4 = -2)l Honiton Ladies had their first Open Competition of the year on Wednesday. Forty seven teams, 141 ladies from 26 Devon, Dorset and Somerset clubs played, with just the early teams experiencing a damp few holes to the start of their round, then all enjoying the lovely sunshine for the remainder of the competition. The format was 3BBB - 2 best scores to count.Winners, with 81pts, were a team from Teignmouth of Annemarie Boyne (Hcap 21) Sue Robertson (30) and Jill Lewis (25).Runners-up, with 80pts, were an Exeter team of Dot Butler (25) Janet Copp (26) and Betty Scagell(30).Nearest the pin on the second hole was Janet Welsh from Sherborne.Nearest the pin on the 12th hole was Lady Captain Sue Selway.There were five 2s, with each player receiving 12 balls.l The Mixed Foursomes Competition played on Tuesdays, organised by Geoff and Sheila Banks. goes from strength to strength. This week's format was Greensome Stableford played in unexpectedly lovely weather. Winners, with 43pts, were Rosemary Whiteley and Stan Squire. Second were ladies' vice-captain Elizabeth Ward and Paul Witton with 41pts and third were Christine Whitley and John Northover with 40pts. Fourth were Linda Northover and Cyril Dann with 38pts. AXE CLIFF GOLF - The main club competed in excellent conditions for the June Medal. The first division was won by Richards Gibbons (10) with a nett 64, gross 74, and was his best ever round at 'Royal Axe'. Second was Alan Morgan (11) with a nett 65 and third place went to Matt Bond (3) with a nett 67. Division Two was won by Dan Taylor (14) with a nett 66. Second was Alan Paul (22) with a nett 70, and third, on back nine, was Chris Walker.The ladies played their Peugeot Foursomes competition on Wednesday, after being delayed by rain. The winning pair was Barbara Cummings (26) and Di Rogers (27) with 34 points. On the Sunday Helen Gaudie and Malcolm Glass played a Greensome mixed open at Sidmouth Golf Club and came in third in the visitors' prizes.Last year's senior's captain Brian Blackwood presented �1,016 to Seaton and District Hospital League of Friends, the money he raised in his year at the top.On the same day the lady captain, Pauline Standerwick, presented �277 to the same charity.LYME REGIS GOLF - The first of the competitions for the club's annual golf week was an individual Stableford. With ideal scoring conditions the players didn't disappoint and the winning club member with a fantastic nett 67 was M G Dixon, Alan Morgan just missed out with the same score on count back as did C Painton.The winning ladies' score went to A Tudberry with a fantastic nett 68. S Lamb came in second with a nett 71 and, making up the top three, was M Paul with a nett 74.The first golf week team event was a three ball and the winning score of 83 was from the team of I Hobson, H Wickes, and J Cleal.Narrowly missing out by one shot were J Yorke, Gary Yorke and M Montgomery. Third were Mrs Wheeler, Mrs P Drake and Brian Seed.An individual Stableford event greeted the players on Tuesday and, once again, the scores were very low with some great playing conditions. John Yorke was shaping up to have a good week with a fantastic score of 45 points - he won the Stableford. Five points behind was P Galloway.The 4BBB winners were Jane Southcombe and M Howe with 49 points, ahead of Des Denning and M Saunders with 46. Four points off the lead were Reg Caddy and Steve Phillips with 45 points.The fifth event of the week saw Simon Kewley shoot five better than his handicap to win the individual Stableford by two clear shots with 42.Second, with 40, was B Carter and third Rupert Yorke.The club's ladies' vice captain Jane Dixon has finally got back into winning ways after a string of seconditis. She shot 43 points to claim first place eight points clear of last year's lady captain Jane Broom with 35 points. Third, on countback, was the ever steady Helen Case.Saturday started with every Lyme Regis Golf Club member's pet hate, a thick blanket of fog covering the course and closing it. With the fog barely lifting all day, there was just about enough visability to hold a Medal competition. The eventual winner was J Thomas with a nett 66. Rapidly improving junior team member J Ebdon was second and third, with a fantastic net 67, was P Sargent.The County Golfer Stableford Reg Caddy, with less than two hours' sleep under his belt, was understandably struggling on the first few holes but managed to string birdies and pars together to shoot a fantastic 72 and see his handicap cut to single figures. Coming in second was avid Man Utd fan Adrian Morgan with a fantastic 44 points seeing his handicap cut to 4 on the back of some fantastic team and individual results. Finishing off the top three was W McCormick with 41. Division 2 was won by junior member George Yorke with 41 points earning a handicap cut to 19. R Coombe came in second and managed to score 39 points with S Thirwell in third with 38.
