BEER Albion did themselves a major favour in their battle to avoid slipping out of the Premier Division when they beat fellow basement dwellers Hatherleigh Town 3-1 at Furzebrake, on Saturday afternoon. The Fishermen remain a couple of wins from safety with just 11 games remaining but, as the programme will undoubtedly get very congested for other sides as they play catch up on matches played, the win leaves Phil Crabb's side with plenty of reasons to be cheerful.Justin Adkin bagged a brace, one of which came from the penalty spot, and the other Fisherman goal came courtesy of Mark Anning.Next up for Beer is a visit from high flying Bickleigh who will be delighted that they are scheduled to play at Furzebrake where so few games fall to the elements. The Blues are better off than most of the top flight sides having completed 17 of their 30 games. Next up for Sean Devin's side is a trip across the county lines to Wellington on Saturday afternoon, weather permitting of course!Seaton Town won for the third time in four outings and seem to have washed the 4-0 defeat at Alphington out of their system after a single goal win over a much stronger than usual Cullompton Rangers side. The Mid Devon side outfit their Peninsula League player boss Richard Pears in goal, and also included a number of players with plenty of Western League experience. The game was one of two different halves for Town and over the full 90 minutes the undoubted star of the home show was keeper Dave Perham who put in an outstanding shift. The winning goal came inside the final third of the contest. The hard working Jamie Poynton chased down yet another lost cause to win a corner and, when the ball was delivered to the six yard area, Josh French climbed higher than anybody else to thump a header home. Young Cameron Vere came off the bench on the hour for the injured Brad Groves and the youngster proved an excellent foil for the industrious Poynton and the win was no more than Town deserved.Boss Mark Watkins said: "Given the strength in their side, this was a fabulous performance and a gilt edged victory. We can draw so much from a win like this and, if we can sustain this tempo, passion and power, then there really is no reason why we should not have a real say in the business end of the campaign."This coming weekend seventh placed Town host a Willand Rovers side who will begin the day in second place, some six points better off then Town. Another Colyford Road win will cement their place amongst the sides chasing a place in next season's top flight.Upottery finally managed to get a game under their belts when they completed a Senior One game for only the second time since November. The stop start nature of the campaign is doing the villagers no favours and neither will the 2-1 defeat they suffered to fellow strugglers Broadclyst. It's just the one win to date this season for the side, playing for the first time in the second tier of football at this level. The September 27 4-2 win over Westexe Rovers seems a long time ago for Merv Sawyer's side but they are not yet cast adrift and victory on Saturday at home to Cullompton Rangers would keep them on course to effect a great escape from a quick return to Senior Two.Honiton Town had another game meet a weather driven fate as their match at Exeter Civil Service was cancelled. Just nine games remain for Richard Ayres's mid-table side, starting with Saturday's visit to Mountbatten Park of Beacon Knights. In Senior Three Seaton Town Reserves chalked up a third straight win with a superb all round show at Winkleigh where they won 3-1. When Gareth Richardson went off injured, third team top scorer Asa Sandman came off the bench and his first skilful touch set up Charlie Cross to rifle Town ahead. The lead was doubled when Ritchie Durrant delivered a superb cross to the far post that was volleyed home by Mark Rooke and then, after the hosts had halved the deficit, another Durrant delivery ended with Cross nailing his second to secure a 3-1 win.Colyton's game at home to South Zeal fell foul of a waterlogged Peace Memorial playing field and so Richard Somers' men are left facing 15 more league engagements over the next 12 weeks starting with Saturday's trip to Clyst Valley.Axminster Town Reserves were left kicking their heels owing to a waterlogged Uplowman pitch. This weekend Kevin Turner's side host Lapford. In Senior Four Dunkeswell Rovers drew 0-0 at home to Topsham Town Reserves and the Dunks will complete the first half of their season with Saturday's trip to Woodbury. In Senior Five Axmouth United's recent inactivity showed up as they slumped to a 5-0 defeat at Colaton Raleigh. In Intermediate One there was a good win for Awliscombe United who beat Culm United 4-0, but the biggest scorers of the day were Feniton Reserves who hit seven at UAU Exeter in a contest that dished up 10 goals. Trevor Anning and John Phillips both bagged braces whilst the other Blues' scorers were Stevie Lawler, Ritchie Barras and Eldon Brain. The latter was the Blues' goalkeeper and he managed the unusual feat of punting a down field kick that slipped through the opposing keeper's legs and into the net. He had nowhere to hide!
