The curtain has come down on another fine season in the Tolchards Devon Cricket League and after all the disruption caused by the Covid years, it was fantastic to complete a full campaign.
In the A Division, Seaton CC had a nightmare season on the pitch, losing all 18 games but the club will take great heart from the spirit and togetherness demonstrated throughout a tough summer.
Kilmington escaped relegation from the A Division with a crucial win over Barton on the penultimate weekend, the result consigning the South Devon side to B Division cricket next term.
Chasing a tough target of 254/9, Kilmington were grateful to a fine partnership between Oscar Oborn-Corby (53) and Harry Johnstone (67), plus late contributions from Josh Short (27 no) and Matt Rockett (30), as they secured safety with one run to spare.
Uplyme & Lyme Regis finished third in a satisfying season in C Division East and were just four points behind runners-up Alphington and Countess Wear. Despite a three-wicket haul from Andrew Harrison and a lovely knock of 63 by Anand Abhishek, Uplyme went down to a 51-run defeat against Exmouth 2nds on the final day.
It was a mid-table finish in D Division East for Feniton, although the last game at Budleigh Salterton 2nds was one to forget, as they went down to a 10-wicket loss.
In E Division East, Honiton amassed an impressive 245 points over the course of the season to end the campaign in third. Honiton ended the season with a visit from North Devon 3rds and produced a top performance to win by eight wickets.
Ian Kelly was outstanding with the ball, claiming 5/21 as the North Devon side were skittled out for just 167. Dave Haysom (62) and Matthew Matravers (52) led Honiton to a comfortable victory.
There were some difficult times for Axminster Town in F Division East, as they finished third from bottom. The final day ended in a heavy loss at home to Cullompton 2nds but there were enough good displays through the season to give heart for next term.
G Division East saw a number of 2nd teams from local clubs involved, with Kilmington 2nds the best performers, finishing as runners-up behind Culmstock.
