It was all about the Seniors Captain’s Prize at Honiton Golf Club this week, played in a stableford format but with double points on every third hole.
This seemed to suit the Captain himself (Rob Sexton), as he came in with the best score of the day at 52 points, despite failing to score on the double points 18th.
However, he couldn’t win his own prize, and the tankard therefore went to Peter Blake, winner of Division 1, with 51. Bill Eaton and Pat Purtell matched him in the same division, but lost on countback.
Division 2 was headed by the Captain, followed in by Steve Bundell and George Smith, both on 50.
The Circus had 35 players setting out, but it was Grant Stevens who shot 7 shots better than ever, returning an exceptional 45 points. Coming in second with a creditable 42 was Paul Webber and back in third, Andy Clark with 38.
