Honiton Town earned a massive point on Saturday in their fight to pull clear of the bottom places in the South-West Peninsula League.

Hosting fourth-placed Ivybridge Town in a feisty encounter, the Hippos were grateful to Luke Ashford for a fine save with his legs in the first minute.

Sam Kemp headed narrowly over for Honiton before the breakthrough arrived on the half-hour, Kyle Howell pouncing on a loose backpass from the Ivies to sweep Honiton into a jubilant lead.

A high-intensity first period finished with both sides creating chances, and the entertainment continued after the break. The tackles were flying in all over the pitch and the Ivies snatched a point 15 minutes from time, Jordan Ewing slotting home from close range.

Ashford produced two fine late saves to confirm the point for Honiton, who then finished with a flurry, Tom Perryman and Howell both going close to a dramatic winner.

Midweek Herald:

It has been a great week for Axminster Town, as the Tigers are now up to fifth and just four points behind Ivybridge following comfortable wins over Torridgeside and Elburton Villa.

On the weekend, Richard Hebditch notched a penalty and a Charlie Wilson strike was enough for a 2-0 success against Elburton, which came after the dominant 4-1 midweek defeat of Torridgeside.

On that occasion, the Tigers were always in control and cruised to victory, with a double from Craig Veal and further strikes by Joe Chamberlain and Danny Bailey.

Beer Albion marched into the semi-finals of the Devon Football League with an efficient 3-1 win over Plymouth-based Lakeside Athletic at the Furzebrake. Giles Basson bagged a brace for the Fishermen and there was a sublime finish from Josh French for the Beer fans to savour.

In Division 8 of the Devon & Exeter League, Millwey Rise 2nds produced a display full of class and composure to win 3-0 at Bow AAC.

Ash Hall made some good early saves for Millwey, who found their attacking mojo when Jack Bennett nodded into the path of Owen Enticott, and he sidestepped two defenders to smash the ball into the net.

A fabulous cross from Cameron Board picked out Shane Featherstone for a thumping header to double the lead and substitute Ben Rosling completed a fine victory.
