Honiton Town Football Club is forming a brand new women’s team for the first time in the club’s history.
This major milestone for the club comes on the back of the men’s first team enjoying their highest finish in the South-West Peninsula League.
Nicola Brown (player/manager) approached Honiton Town FC when she learned the town / club did not already have a women's team. Nicola has played football at various levels across the South-West for many years.
She had recently retired but, after helping another local team out for a few games, she got the football bug back and with other players also looking for a local club, and not to let talent go to waste, she decided to set up her own team.
Honiton Town FC didn't hesitate. The club jumped at the chance to create the Town's first Women's team and have been super supportive ever since.
“The Women's team will be run by players (and ex-players), for players,” said Amber Guy-Kemp. “Everyone will have their jobs to do! We hope to create a really good, fun but competitive environment, with ambitions of taking the team on to big things. We don't want to sound too confident or be overly ambitious, but we're definitely in it to win it!
“We're a friendly club with fantastic facilities. New players are always welcome. We kick-start our journey on Wednesday, July 5 - our first pre-season session (7pm at Mountbatten Park). Confirmed sponsors are Pinnacle Photo Agency (PPA), B! Health and Fitness and Zest Café, who are kindly providing delicious food for both the home and away teams on match-days at Mountbatten.
Andrew Symonds, Honiton Town Vice Chair, added: “We are delighted that Nicola and Amber will be running a women’s team from Mountbatten in the 23/24 Season. With the Women’s Team, we have also been able to reform our second team and also support an under 18s side with Honiton Youth. It is all part of the club’s plan to develop and offer more football in the area.”
