Lyme Regis GC Leapers competed for the Challenge Shield with the course kept in fabulous condition by Course Manager Jamie Hughes and his team.
With a helpful maximum of 12 on any one hole, this medal event certainly made many players who are more used to Stableford competitions think about their strategy and course management. The ‘winner’ of the Hero To Zero Stork Bowl for last place went to Roger Pincombe, though his nett score remains a closely guarded secret!
Five players were very closely matched with nett 70 or 71 but the clear winner was octogenarian Chris Turnbull with an excellent net 68. In true Leapers tradition though, the biggest cheer of the day was for the announcement of the ensuing four-shot cut to Chris' Leapers handicap!
Two upcoming events this month are The Ladies and Leapers Day on the 22nd - a better ball competition played in 4s with 48 players. As usual, the draw for partners will only be slightly fixed in order to avoid husbands and wives playing together! This will be followed on the 24th with a monthly away day at Tiverton GC, hosted by last month's winner at Exeter Golf and Country Club, Rex Ireland.
