It was a full programme of fixtures in the South-West Peninsula League and the leading trio are pulling away from the pack.

Ivybridge Town are absolutely flying this season and they were far too strong for Honiton Town, Jack Alexander notching twice in a 6-1 win over the Hippos. Bridport recovered from a 2-0 deficit at home to Bovey Tracey to beat the Moorlanders 3-2.

Axminster Town are a little further back in third, as they crushed Torridgeside 5-0.  One of the results of the weekend came at Okehampton Argyle, where Sidmouth Town recorded an excellent 3-1 win, Nathan Cooper, Louis Jagger-Cane and Sam Hatswell scoring for the Vikings.

Sam Hughes became only the second player in SWPL history to pass 300 goals in the competition, thanks to his brace for Elburton Villa in their 3-0 defeat of Bishop Lydeard. Adam Carter is the other player to reach this impressive milestone.

Tom Davey’s solitary strike was enough for Torrington to beat lowly Dartmouth, Teignmouth also beat Cullompton 1-0 and there was a 2-2 draw between Newton Abbot Spurs and Crediton United.

Barnstaple Town remain unbeaten in the Toolstation Western League and the North Devon outfit inflicted an impressive defeat on leaders Helston Athletic, who were displaced at the top by Falmouth Town. Debutant Oscar Massey scored twice for Barum and the other goal came from Brodie Montague.

Falmouth jumped into the top position with a 2-1 victory at Buckland Athletic, a game watched by over 250 supporters. Ilfracombe Town continued their worrying run with a 1-0 loss at home to Bridgwater United, while Millbrook remain without a point at the bottom.

Willand Rovers are riding high at the top of the Southern League Division One South table. Cribbs were the visitors to Mid Devon on Saturday and a brace from Owen Howe kept Rovers two points above Bemerton Heath Harlequins.

Bideford are just outside the play-off positions on goal difference following an inspired hat-trick from Matt Buchan, which gave the Robins a 3-1 success at home to Melksham Town, who actually led the game at half-time.

Tavistock remain in the bottom three after a 0-0 draw with Westbury United and they are being chased hard by Exmouth Town, who produced their best performance of the campaign to trounce Bishops Cleeve 4-1. Mike Landricombe, Ben Steer, Ethan Slater and Ace High notched for Exmouth.

The big game of the weekend in the Devon Football League saw the University of Exeter inflict a 3-0 defeat on leaders Appledore, as the students moved into second and maintained their 100% start to the season. Callum Chalmers, Luke Steer and Teddy Hall scored for the students.

A 2-2 draw at Budleigh Salterton kept Lakeside Athletic in third but Beer Albion are enduring a surprisingly inconsistent run, as they went down to a 4-1 loss at Thorverton, with Lee Radford bagging a brace for the hosts.

Substitute Cameron Osborne scored the only goal of the game for Barnstaple Town Reserves, as Barum kept Feniton wedged at the bottom of the table. Bere Alston gave themselves some breathing space with a superb 4-0 defeat of Topsham Town.

A double from Sam Phillips proved enough for North Molton to record a 2-1 win at Ipplepen Athletic and there was an impressive victory for Newtown, who jumped above their visitors from Mount Gould with a 3-1 triumph. The final game saw Ottery St Mary go down 2-1 at home to Plymstock United.

On the professional scene, Plymouth Argyle prepared for the midweek visit of Millwall by securing a solid 1-1 draw at Hull City. Adam Randell opened the scoring for the Pilgrims but they were pegged back by a Hull leveller on the stroke of half-time.

Exeter City dropped out of the play-off positions in Sky Bet League Two following a disappointing 2-0 loss at home to Northampton Town but Torquay United enjoyed a top weekend, walloping Hungerford Town 5-0 in the FA Cup. All five goals arrived in a rampant first half for the Gulls.
