Stella Thompson and Jo Hopgood have won the annual Helen Gaudie Bowl at Axe Cliff Golf Club, beating Jill Wellington and Ang Higgins on countback, writes Dave Bruce.
The Men’s October Medal was won by Matt Coburn in Division 1 with a nett 67, with Alex Taylor second. In Division 2, Jimmy Matthews was the winner with 68, followed by Stephen Reed (69) and Steve Anning (70).
The popular Mashers Roll Up was won by the Seniors Vice Captain Richard Gibbons with 35 points, beating Anthony Critchfield and Graham Smith.
The Seniors' Winter League is played over eight Rounds and it looks like Richard and Anthony could be early contenders. Anthony had the best score of 41, sharing top spot with Gerry Binmore. Michael Chadwick was close behind with 40. Richard, keeping up his fine form, scored 39, as did the steady John Purdy. The holder Mike Wickins came way down but don’t rule him out just yet.
