The Axe Cliff Golf Club's ladies section have a very special member in Karin Cox, who is flying the flag superbly.

Firstly she went to Exeter Golf & Country Club and won Div 2 of the Devon Golf County Prize, and was 4th out of the total field of 60 ladies in both divisions.

Not satisfied by that, she then went to Dawlish Warren and again won her Division 2 of the Devon Golf County Medal with an excellent net 68.

Mind you, she was helped having husband Jon caddy for her.

Well done Karin you are doing us proud.

Midweek Herald:

Last week, the ladies hosted a friendly Tea afternoon for a selection of players from Corhampton, Wedmore, Yeovil, Long Sutton, Sidmouth and Honiton.

They all enjoyed a round of golf and a wonderful cream tea afterwards in the clubhouse.

The scones were the finest from the popular Bear Bakery in Colyton and supplemented by some lovely homemade cakes.

Captain Stella Thompson played with two of our members at Torquay in the Devon Vets Spring Meeting and was a first class 4th in the Devon Venerable Vets Div 1, and 7th overall out of a field of 94 ladies.

Mark Winterbottom appears to be the player in form in our Mens Section.

He was recently third in the annual Gees Bowl with a net 72, behind the winner John Gait who won on countback with his net 69 from young JImmy Matthews.

Mark then went on to win last Saturday's Roll Up with a great score of 37 points, pushed all the way from second placed Chris Glover and third placed Ian Wallis with 33 and 32 respectively.

The Seniors were able to play the re-arranged annual Captain Trophy last Friday, before the rain came down in the afternoon with only a bit of wind to contend with.

Our captain, Richard Gibbons, tried his hardest to win his own trophy and was only beaten on countback by Anthony Critchfield, both had 34 points.

Three others all had 33 points and are vying for third spot.

It was good to see young Geoff Hughes, who is 89 next month, out in his buggy.
